Today’s Summer Fun activity was designing a flower garden (of sorts). Now, neither of my thumbs is green, so those more garden-worthy individuals will be glad to know that no actual flowers were harmed in the making of this project.
Though the flowers weren’t real, we did make the experience more authentic by using real dirt. So naturally, we grabbed our shovels and got some high-quality soil from the yard (after first seeking approval from the groundskeeper, who recommended a nice shady spot on the side of the house).
The crafting of the flowers was an activity more suitable for an older child, so Omelette and I waited until Early Bird went down for her nap. In the meantime, we all watched Barbie Presents Thumbelina to get some ideas for the kinds of flowers we wanted to include in our garden (and to give me a chance to take a quick shower).
Once Early Bird had settled down for her nap, we set about turning a variety of different craft supplies into a mess.
And out of this mess came the final product, which we took outside for planting.
A good time was had by all, and in the end, there was only one casualty — a shovel that somehow went AWOL.
Come back tomorrow for another fun project, which may or may not involve visitors from out of this world!
